Dear SACS Old Boys and broader SACS  community Traditionally around this time of year the SACS Old Boys Union hosts the John Ince Memorial Run, a fun run / walk in and about the SACS Campus, held to bring the SACS community together to honour the memory of John Ince. Many of you will remember John fondly whose involvement at SACS began as a schoolboy at the old Cape Town campus and continued in some way or form as a friend, house master, teacher and through the OBU, right up until his passing 11 years ago.

Due to the Covid pandemic the event was not held last year and being mindful of the current situation the organisers have decided this year to stage a virtual race, the John Ince Memorial Run & Ride.

The JIMR&R follows the same structure of other well-known virtual races which have taken place around Cape Town over the past 2 years. There are 2 different trail run options and for the first time we have included a mountain bike course, all 3 start and finish on Newlands Avenue directly outside Foresters Arms. For the fitter runners there is a 13km run on the jeep and single tracks and contour path of Newlands Forest and for the less serious runners / walkers / youngsters, a 4km loop in the lower Newlands Forest. For the Mountain Bikers, the 23km mountain bike route takes the riders out to Constantia Neck and back. Course descriptions, GPX files (which you can download to your compatible GPS device) and route profiles are listed below.

You have the whole month of November to complete the JIMR&R and there are no set days or times when you must tackle the route. However, we ask that you do not attempt the longer trial run the weekend of the 27th and 28th November as the Ultra Trail Cape Town will be taking place.

There are no entry fees and you can do the courses as many times as you want, or if you are feeling extra fit, you can even tackle all 3. There will be plenty of spot prizes, so it doesn’t matter how fast or slow you do each course. All we ask is that if you would like to qualify for a prize you complete the following registration form ( and tag the SACS Union (@sacs_obu) in your social media posts.

The event is open to everyone and is not limited to SACS OB’s and we encourage you to challenge your friends, families, teammates, and classmates.

We hope to see you all out there. Enjoy!
